Each year SDCYB provides our students with opportunities to participate in several Master Classes and Lectures.  It is our goal to educate both parents and students about the profession of ballet, and make sure that our students are well-prepared to handle the various challenges that come along with this field.

Master Classes involve taking a dance class from skilled  teachers from all over the country.  These classes explore other forms of dance in addition to ballet, and past classes have included Flamenco, Modern Dance, Hip Hop, and Broadway.  Through a partnership with The La Jolla Music Society, we have been able to host Master Classes taught by Ashley Wheater, the Artistic Director of the Joffrey Ballet, as well as Jamar Roberts, a long-time company member with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.  These classes allow our students to learn and grow from incredible, world-renowned instructors, and open their eyes to dance beyond San Diego.

The SDCYB Lecture Series is a chance to provide vital information to our students about important topics in the dance world.  Past lecture topics have included: Music Appreciation for Dancers, Injury Prevention for Dancers, Nutrition for Dancers, College Dance and Conservatory Programs, and Careers in Dance.  SDCYB understands that the more information we can provide to our students, the better prepared they will be to pursue a career in ballet.
